Deltalok® Erosion Control Overview

Deltalok® can be used to create a stable green face to slopes which are susceptible to erosion.
Deltalok® can be used as a reinforced wall to both retain and prevent erosion of embankments or it can also be used as a gravity wall providing erosion protection to the face of an otherwise stable slope. In this situation it is often beneficial to use small GTX bags laid on their side, perpendicular to the slope face.

Deltalok® system can also be used below the water level in the patented Delta-Rap system, which is a method of using Deltalok® bags tied together to form a soft, flexible equivalent to Rip-Rap rock fill.
Function:
Deltalok® can be used as a gravity wall construction where soil is being eroded by the action of water. Deltalok® GTX bags will remain stable under their own weight and can be secured together using standard Deltalok® shear connectors. Erosion will be prevented by the surface layer created by the Deltalok® system which will in time become a host to natural vegetation. The stability over time of the Deltalok® green face will ensure that natural vegetation thrives and continues to resist the erosion action of water.

Preventing erosion where water meets land can be one of the most difficult areas to stabilise. The removal of soil from the water line level will cause the embankment above to become unstable. Hard features such as concrete and rock are both unsightly and have proven to be limited in performance due to their lack of flexibility to accommodate changes in the embankment, soil and moisture movement.
Deltalok® provides a unique solution in this situation through the provision of a soft face which is both tough and flexible, accommodating the physical changes in the embankment.
Delta-Rap takes this concept one stage further and uses Deltalok® GTX bags filled with clean granular material and tied together in stings, which can be randomly placed below water level, protecting the embankment from further undermining. |
