Truckpave® Case Study: Malvern Wells, Worcester : P. Forker Ltd / Severn Trent Water

Truckpave Surface Grass Reinforcement

Access for water company vehicles through agricultural land

The Challenge

The construction of a CSO (combined sewer overflow) on agricultural land, in Malvern Wells (Worcs), presented Severn Trent Water's engineers with challenges:

For many years, Severn Trent have been successfully using Hoofmark's 38mm deep Golpla grass pavers to provide access to their installations and were happy for Golpla to be installed along the main access road on this project.

Their engineers were concerned about the possible effects of heavy vehicles manouevering on the turning area at the end of the access road – it was thought that this might cause rotation of individual pavers, potentially leading to displacement of units.

Truckpave Solution

Hoofmark's Truckpave grass paver system, 100mm deep and also manufactured from recycled plastic, was selected to provide a permeable surface capable of withstanding the stresses imposed by the turning movements of heavy commercial vehicles.

In March 2008, working for Severn Trent Water, P. Forker Ltd formed the access road by the installation of some 690m² of Golpa 38mm deep grass pavers. The vehicle turning area was constructed using 360m² of 100mm deep Truckpave grass pavers.
